A Brief History
RPI has two moments of absolute hockey glory. In 1954, up-and-coming
deity Ned Harkness led them to the national title. In 1985, a star-studded
lineup led by Adam Oates, John Carter, and Daren Puppa won the title again,
and their 31-game winning streak broke the Harkness-era Cornell NCAA record
of 30.
That's about it. Despite recruiting many great players, and the unshakeable
annual belief in the Capital District that their boys are the anointed, the
Engineers have accomplished maddeningly little. Added to this, they have now
spent years as ECAC cellar dwellars. Something is clearly wrong with these guys,
and it isn't helping the league.
